Guestbook for Michael Morriss Memorial

Michael had a special place in my heart amongst all my cousins. I remember him taking us hiking on our first visit to Hawaii, he showed a love of nature that I found amazing and that encouraged me to explore and see everything. I always loved looking at Michael's pictures from the many different trips he took they always gave me a chance to see and feel apart of some of the things he got to see and be a part of. I'll never forget Michael's love and compassion he was one of a kind and can never be replaced.

Michael was such an amazing cousin. He always put in extra effort to make sure that my brother and i had someone to talk to. He would always hang out with us even though we're 5-6 years younger. Michael was always really fun to be around and it was evident that everything he did was something he was passionate about. I love him so much and he will be forever missed.

One of the fond memories I have of Michael is the day we arrived from Florida to celebrate together as a family after the passing of Michael's grandfather, Gramps, my father. Michael took my two children Tyler and Jessica, myself and other cousin Cory up behind his house into the vast forest for a hike. He knew it well and he led us through the mud and up the trail to a place, a tree, where we could see the valley below and much of the big island. It was a fun, peaceful climb and we chatted and laughed. Michael was dynamic and so loving. He embraced his cousins with love and adventure and set himself apart as a caring young man. He showed a part of himself we didn't ordinarily see and we felt special and excited to be there. You knew Michael was real and down to earth and my children were ecstaic that he noticed them and accepted them for who they were. As I reflect back upon that day, we exchanged our hearts and love for each other on a hike that meant so much to Michael giving a part of himself for us.

Hopi Prayer

Do not stand
at my grave and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand
winds that blow.
I am the
diamond glints on snow.
I am the
sunlight
on the ripened
grain.
I am the
gentle Autumn's
rain.

When you awaken
in the morning hush,
I am the swift
uplifting rush
of quiet birds in
circled flight.
I am the
soft stars that
shine
at night.

Do not stand
at my grave
and cry:
I am not there,
I did not die.

Dear family and friends,

Michael will never be forgotten, he lives and soars, in our hearts, our minds and bodies.

Love, Kayla

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby ii ii iii
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh ooooh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me ee ee eeh
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops thats where you'll find me oh
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,why, oh why can't I? i iiii

Well I see trees of green and
Red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more
Than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world (w)oohoorld

Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that's where you'll find me
Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I? I hiii ?
